Is MDR always better than an MSSP?

No; the actual task ownership is more useful than the label. Compare the advertised MDR scope with the precise statement of work you are offered, including excluded activities.

Can we keep our existing endpoint tools?

Potentially, where a provider supports your exact environment and licensing. Expel's Microsoft MDR offering is a sourced example of this approach, but compatibility must still be demonstrated for your own systems.

Is a vCISO enough for a small security team?

It can address leadership and program-management needs when that is the missing capability. The modular Truvantis vCISO description does not establish that every implementation task or overnight response action is included.

Can we compare suppliers by average response time?

Only if the measures use comparable events, clock definitions and exclusions. The response lifecycle in NIST's guidance supports examining investigation, decisions and recovery rather than accepting one headline metric.

Does a compliance platform replace an assessor?

A software workflow and an independent assurance judgment are different deliverables. Compare Vanta's advertised platform with the assurance purpose described by AICPA for SOC 2, and confirm what your chosen engagement actually includes.
